& Notes
August 24th, 2010
Updated the final statistics
for 2010.
August 23rd, 2010 The Ski's season ended yesterday with an opening
round loss to the New Ulm Brewers. See details
below.
Time to clean up the last three Ski
MVPs. For the games against Avon and Royalton
in the early rounds of the regions the winner was Jason
King. For the region late round games the
winner was Jake Kluver. For the state
tournament game I'm going to go ahead and name Jon
Czech the MVP without a poll. To see the
numbers and read the comments for the past two polls
In other VL news, the Lastrup Lakers stayed alive in the
State Tourney with 10-0 win against the Essig Blue
Jays. They will now face the Luverne
Redbirds Saturday, August 28th at 1:30 pm in Bird
Island.
Added a new poll.
In a final bit of news, this will also end my run as the
webmaster for SobieskiSkis.com. It's been over ten
years since we (my bother and I) started this little
thing on a whim and it's time to hang up the code (I
don't wear spikes). It's been a lot of fun working
on this over the years and what made it fun was seeing
activity on the site and seeing the site grow over the
years to something that no one expected. Over
270,00 page hits on this site and well over 5 million
pages hits on the message board. It was you the
loyal visitors that kept this (and me) going, so THANK
YOU very much to everyone. Whether you visited
the site once, or daily, the fact that you were here
means a lot.
You may be wondering what will happen to the site in the
future? There are still a few updates that I'll
make in the coming days/weeks to update some final
numbers and things. After that I plan to
transition all the code, and files that I have to the
Ski's and they can do with it what they wish. The
message board will stay open, but I will no longer
moderate it as I have in the past.
Once again, thanks to everyone. A special thanks
to Brad Czech for getting me the information each
and every week in a timely manner, so that I could keep
this site as current as possible. The information
may have lagged behind a bit in the past year, but that
was my fault, not Brad's or the Skis.
Congrats to the Skis on a fine season, and good luck in
the future!
State Tournament
New Ulm 5, Sobieski 4 Willmar, MN - 8/22/2010
The
Sobieski Ski's were eliminated from the 2010 Class C
Tournament in Willmar Sunday as they dropped a 5-4
decision to the New Ulm Brewers.
The Ski's got a run in the first
on Jon Czech's
RBI single
that scored Greg Aker. The Brewers put
three
runs on the board in the
second
inning on a pair of singles and
two
sacrifices and
one
error. They tacked on
two
more runs in the
third
on
four
singles to make it 5-1 after
two and a half
innings. Sobieski got a run scoring double by
Jon Czech with
two
outs in the bottom of the
third,
scoring Greg Aker from
first
base with
two
outs to make it 5-2.
It stayed that way until the
eighth
when Sobieski got another RBI double
from Czech, this one kicked up chalk down the left field
line, making it 5-3. In the bottom of the
ninth,
pinch-hitter Josh Wenzel got a leadoff walk, went to
second
on a passed ball. After a pop out to
second,
Wenzel took
third
on a wild pitch. Andy Cook, a draftee from
Leavonworth, got Andrew Lange to ground out to
first
for the
second
out, with Wenzel scoring on the play making it 5-4. There
were
two
outs and the bases empty. Beau Hanowski then
walked before Jake Kluver grounded out to
first
to end the game. The Ski's finish the 2010
season with a record of 24-6. Summary: WP:

August 17th, 2010 One more bit of information on the State
Tournament for the Victory League teams, the
draftees. Sobieski drafted Troy Wunderlich from
the Avon Lakers, and the Lastrup Lakers drafted Brett
Kramer from the Fort Ripley Rebels.
Added two new polls for the Ski MVP award for the past
two weeks and updated the statistics.
August 16th, 2010 The Ski's are the Region 8C Champions!
They knocked off two sets of Lakers yesterday to take
the Region title for the fourth time in the past ten
years. First up was an elimination game versus the
Avon Lakers which they took 7-2, then followed it up
with a 10-9 win over the Lastrup Lakers for the title.
The Ski's will advance to the State Tournament as a
result of the success yesterday. Their opening
game will be next Sunday, August 22nd, in Willmar
against the Region 2C runner-up, New Ulm Kaiserhoff.
Lastrup will also move on to the State Tournament where
they will face the Essig
Blue Jays in Willmar following the Ski's game.
August 15th, 2010 The Ski's beat Fort Ripley yesterday to stay
alive in the Region 8C Tournament. They will play
the Avon Lakers today in a State Tournament qualifying
game. If they win they will then face the Lastrup
Lakers for the Region 8C title.
